Resident-led Employee Appreciation Fund 2024
The Employee Appreciation Fund was established by residents shortly after Covenant Village opened its doors in 1982. Since the retirement community does not allow tipping of employees during the year, this is a tangible way once a year that residents can say, “thank you.”
A formula, based on years of service and hours worked during 2024, is used to determine the amount of each check – with the very newest Covenant Village employees receiving no less than $50 in appreciation for their service. The only employee who does not receive a check from the Fund is the CEO.
As of November 27, 56% percent of Covenant Village residents have donated to the 2024 Employee Appreciation Fund. With additional support from family and friends, the fund has raised more than $67,000 to date.
In 2023, more than 80% of all Covenant Village residents donated to the Employee Appreciation Fund for a total of $79,415. The goals this year are to exceed both the percentage of residents giving and also the amount raised.
The Covenant Village Residents invite you to donate before December 11. You can give online at: www.covenantvillagenc.com/giving, or by mail to: Employee Appreciation Fund, Covenant Village 1351 Robinwood Road, Gastonia, NC 28056. If you’re visiting the community, red envelopes for this fund are available at the front desk.
Gifts to the Resident-led Employee Appreciation Fund make a difference and mean the world to the employees who lovingly serve Covenant Village residents and their family members. The following quotes illustrate how meaningful the annual initiative is to staff members:
“The Employee Appreciation gift from the residents means a lot to me and all the employees. This gift from the residents is such a wonderful blessing that makes it possible for me to buy Christmas for my family and friends. Thank you and God bless you for your generosity and appreciation.” Quote provided by a Security Guard
“I have greatly appreciated the Christmas bonus from the residents throughout the years in different ways. I have used it for financial needs as well as buying gifts for others or myself. I remember my first bonus vividly back in 1984. I received $99.00 and I personally thanked every resident for the gift.” Quote provided by a Housekeeper
“I am grateful for the Christmas bonus the residents have so graciously given us. Each year, typically over Christmas break, my siblings and our families try to take a vacation to stay connected. Last year‘s “financial cushion” allowed me to provide all the meals during our trip, which then provided financial relief for my siblings’ families as well. It is truly a blessing to be part of the Covenant Village family and to serve such wonderful residents. Much love and gratitude to you all.” Quote provided by a CNA
“The appreciation gift shows me that each resident appreciates my work just as much as I appreciate them.” Quote provided by a Server
“The Christmas bonus means a lot to me; it’s what I use to buy my children Christmas presents. I also use it for Christmas dinner. I look forward to it every year!” Quote provided by a CNA
Covenant Village employees genuinely love and care for the residents, often becoming like second family to them. Many staff members have served Covenant Village for ten or more years, with some having served since the doors opened over 40 years ago. The relationships between Staff members and Residents are truly remarkable and are the hallmarks of what makes Covenant Village a truly special community.
