Going Red Together
Heart disease is the number one related killer in women in the United States. Over 80% of heart disease is believed to be preventable, which is great news. Of course, this makes bringing awareness, education, research, and resources vital to reduce the number of women affected by it. Some ways to prevent heart disease include not smoking, exercising regularly, and maintaining a healthy balanced diet.
February is American Heart Health Month. Wear Red Day was established to bring awareness to women’s heart health.
This year, National Wear Red Day was held at Covenant Village on Friday, February 7.
Residents and Staff were invited to wear RED on Friday to raise awareness and stand together to support each other in taking preventive actions to reduce heart disease. Staff members gathered for a Go Red picture.
In the February issue of The Villager, Wellness Director Wanda Flowers offered this heart healthy advice:
“One way to help prevent heart disease is exercising regularly. Come to the Wellness Center and exercise in the fitness center or pool. Join a group fitness class and exercise with friends. Shape Up Cardio is a great example of a group fitness class that exercises your whole body, and it’s fun! The participants have the best time exercising and being together. This class provides good exercise with a lot of laughs.
“Classes are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9am downstairs in the Group Fitness Room. And members of the Village Club are welcome any time.
“You will love this class; it’s a great way to help reduce heart disease.”
