Precautions & Preparedness for Coronavirus: Third Confirmed Resident Case on Campus

To: Residents and Staff of Covenant Village

From: Dale Melton, CEO

Date: September 28, 2020

Last Thursday, I shared news about a confirmed Resident case of COVID-19 on the campus, the second since our first reported case nearly six months ago, on April 3. Today, I am writing to inform you that our Village was notified this morning of another confirmed Resident case, resulting in two active cases on campus right now. Both cases are isolated to Cottage Residents.

Our Health Center Staff, led by Kevin Stewart, Administrator; Sue Ashley, Director of Nursing; and Lindsay Clontz, Nurse Educator and the point person for our infection control services, are in conversation with the Resident, as well as with local health department authorities, to assess the situation and to begin Contact Tracing. We continue to follow the Gaston County & NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) guidance and the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) infection control protocols.

Currently, the Resident is showing a few symptoms. The Resident immediately shared the positive test results with our Health Center Staff, for which we are grateful. In this new case, we do see the potential for exposure to other Cottage Residents. Each Cottage Resident has been notified and is working with Covenant Village to self-quarantine for the required period of time to ensure they were not infected or cannot infect anyone else.

We continue to place the highest priority on making our Village a safe living and working environment. We continue to follow our rigorous infection control and screening protocol, as well as all state and federal guidelines, as the COVID-19 pandemic evolves.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Residents involved. We also deeply appreciate all our Residents and their Family members for the patience and understanding they are showing during this challenging time.
