Precautions & Preparedness for Coronavirus: Slowly Re-Opening Wellness Center & the Equipment Room

To: Residents of Covenant Village

From: Dale Melton, CEO

Date: August 14, 2020

After a wonderful, exciting, and successful first week re-opening of Communal Dining by offering a safe and appropriately distanced Breakfast, Covenant Village is taking another step by slowly and in a controlled manner re-opening the Equipment Room in the Wellness Center to Resident use!

Starting Monday, Matt Gibbons, our Director of Wellness, will make available access to the Equipment Room to two (2) Residents at a time. You will go through a short orientation process, as well as sign some paperwork (one-time), so that you will be prepared to re-engage with your exercise routines. Attached is a document Matt created to show you the steps we will be taking.

We are able to do this because of the Governor’s recent action permitting medically necessary exercise in gyms and fitness centers. We see this as a crucial and much needed opportunity on the slow and steady journey to re-opening our State, not just Covenant Village.

I want to express our deep appreciation to Matt for enabling this opportunity. In addition, Kevin Stewart, our Administrator, and Sue Ashley, our Director of Nursing, provided helpful expert consultation to Matt.

You may recall we re-opened the Pool to Resident use on May 26th.

I echo and support their careful and deliberate approach. Yes, we need to establish a number of parameters around how we re-open and deliver this service. We will be monitoring compliance and infection control. If we were to have an outbreak on campus, we may very well need to close the Wellness Center again. That is not our intention or hope.

We truly believe this opportunity is a warm ray of light we are now able to provide as we all continue to adjust to and move forward within this ongoing COVID pandemic!

This virus is still present, active—in the local community—and remains dangerous to anyone, but particularly our population who are most vulnerable. We CANNOT let our guard down.

We are encouraging Residents, as always, to:

• Wear a facemask at ALL TIMES while out, including to and from the dining room (unless outside exercising alone).

• Practice physical distancing of at least six (6) feet at ALL TIMES.

• Wash hands CONTINUALLY and use hand sanitizer in between.

• Practice good cough etiquette.

• If anyone experiences any of the COVID-19 related symptoms or are just not feeling well, Resident should contact the Arbor Wing Nurses Station at —704.917.7857.

We realize the significant and ongoing inconvenience to life, as well as the physical, spiritual, and emotional toll that this Pandemic has brought to our Village, our county, our state, our nation, and our world. Thank you for understanding and complying with the conditions we must put into place, as we all remain committed to preserving the health and well-being of our entire community.

We will continue to keep you updated via community memos; Covenant Conversations on the internal TV channel and Facebook, and the Covenant Village website (https://covenantvillagenc.com/).

Let’s covenant with each other to Finish Strong this Journey—and to Keep HOPE Alive!
