Precautions & Preparedness for Coronavirus: Slowly Re-Opening Communal Dining

To: Residents of Covenant Village

From: Dale Melton, CEO

Date: August 7, 2020

Please read this exciting announcement from Glynn Ziehm and Julia Kotecki in Food & Nutrition!

After much anticipation and extensive planning, we will be re-opening the Main Dining Room on a small, manageable, and monitorable scale!!

We will start by providing Breakfast on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The dining room will open at 8:00 am and will close at 9:00. There will be a sign-up sheet posted outside of the Main Dining Room the day before service for you to register your plans to attend.

Currently, we will be able to accommodate 34 Residents each day. Please be advised you will not be permitted in the dining room if you are on the 14-Day Self-Isolation list. To follow CDC guidelines and to maintain the 6-foot physical distancing requirements, one Resident or one couple will be seated at each table.

The Food & Nutrition Department’s goal is to give as many Residents the opportunity to eat in the dining room in as safe an environment as possible. If you sign-up and you ate in the dining room the last time breakfast was served, you could be removed from the list to accommodate other fellow Residents who have not had the opportunity to receive a hot breakfast. We want to be as equitable and inclusive as possible.

Food & Nutrition would benefit from Residents signing up for breakfast as outlined. This way we can plan properly.

• Sign up Sunday by Noon for Tuesday Breakfast

• Sign up Monday by Noon for Wednesday Breakfast

• Sign up Tuesday by Noon for Thursday Breakfast

We look forward to seeing everyone back in the dining room!

This is great news from Food & Nutrition! I am grateful to Glynn, Julia, Gwen, and their Team for making this opportunity possible.

I echo and support their careful and deliberate approach. Yes, we need to establish a number of parameters around how we re-open and deliver this service. We will be monitoring compliance and infection control. If we were to have an outbreak on campus, we may very well need to close the dining room again. That is not our intention.

We truly believe this is a warm ray of light we are now able to provide as we all continue to adjust to and move forward within this ongoing COVID pandemic!

This virus is still present, active—in the local community—and remains dangerous to anyone, but particularly our population who are most vulnerable. We CANNOT let our guard down.

We are encouraging Residents, as always, to:

• Wear a facemask at ALL TIMES while out, including to and from the dining room (unless outside exercising alone).

• Practice physical distancing of at least six (6) feet at ALL TIMES.

• Wash hands CONTINUALLY and use hand sanitizer in between.

• Practice good cough etiquette.

• If anyone experiences any of the COVID-19 related symptoms or are just not feeling well, Resident should contact the Arbor Wing Nurses Station at —704.917.7857.

We realize the significant and ongoing inconvenience to life, as well as the physical, spiritual, and emotional toll that this Pandemic has brought to our Village, our county, our state, our nation, and our world. Thank you for understanding and complying with the conditions we must put into place, as we all remain committed to preserving the health and well-being of our entire community.

We will continue to keep you updated via community memos; Covenant Conversations on the internal TV channel and Facebook, and the Covenant Village website (https://covenantvillagenc.com/).

Let’s covenant with each other to Finish Strong this Journey—and to Keep HOPE Alive!
