Covenant Village launches new Legacy of Care giving program

Covenant Village has launched The Legacy of Care, a new philanthropic initiative to enrich current and future needs and opportunities. The program has been developed in response to resident requests for a way through which they can show their appreciation and financial support for the place they call home.

The concept for the term Legacy of Care comes from a person’s innate need to create a legacy that lasts beyond his/her lifetime – coupled with the incredible ambiance of care that characterizes all aspects of the culture at Covenant Village: an environment in which love, concern, and encouragement are hallmarks.

The Legacy of Care Committee, comprised of current and future residents of Covenant Village and two Board members, began meeting in January 2024 with the specific goal of finding ways to initiate and support educational and philanthropic initiatives of Covenant Village.  One early example of this work was provided by Committee member Mick McMahan and his daughter, Anna, who led financial workshops for both employees and residents in April.

A second initiative is the Legacy of Care Season of Giving, scheduled for May 2-through June 17.  This timing was selected to give families of residents, current residents, future residents, Board members, and employees the opportunity to also honor or remember their mother, father, or another loved one with a donation in support of one or more of the five pillars of the Legacy of Care.

The pillars include:

  • Resident Benevolence Endowment
  • Workforce Investment
  • Enrichment & Innovation
  • Capital Support
  • Where the Need Is Greatest

A brochure outlining examples of opportunities for each pillar is available at this link: LegacyofCareBrochure.  Video messages from residents and social media posts will highlight the various components of the Legacy of Care over the next seven weeks.

Participating in the Legacy of Care giving season is open to all. A pledge form is available at this link (LegacyofCare_Giving_Form), and gifts may be mailed to “Legacy of Care” at Covenant Village, 1351 Robinwood Road, Gastonia, NC 28054.

A Giving Tree will be on display at Covenant Village.  Ornaments of appreciation for those who have made a pledge or donation will be added to the tree throughout the seven-week duration of the Legacy of Care Season of Giving.  The ornament will include the name of the donor, along with space on which to include whether the pledge/donation is being made in honor or appreciation of someone. In late June, a celebration will be held to thank donors and to present them with their ornaments as a keepsake of their investment.
