Grand Opening Update: Limited, On-campus Visitation

Memorandum

To:  Residents of Covenant Village

From: Dale Melton, CEO

Date:  March 11, 2021

On Monday, March 8th, the CDC released Interim Guidance and Recommendations for Fully Vaccinated People (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated-guidance.html).  Yesterday, March 10th, CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) released Revised Guidance on Nursing Home Visitation (https://www.cms.gov/files/document/qso-20-39-nh-revised.pdf).

What good and hope-filled news these two significant guidances bring to senior living and to our Village!

As a result of Covenant Village’s recent strong success with NO active COVID cases, as well as these official guidances and recommendations—and the detailed, logistical planning of the Leadership Team—the following action step is being taken:

Starting Monday, March 15th—limited, on-campus Visitation will be permitted in Resident homes!!

Below are the Parameters and Expectations we have for this new, tangible, and exciting sign of—not a re-opening—but a Grand Opening of Life and Living at Covenant Village!

  • All Residents and Visitors must understand and adhere to the Parameters and Expectations, or these privileges will be revised or revoked. To that end, we will ask Visitors to sign-in for their visit.  They will be asked to document their compliance with these guidelines.
  • Visitations are open to Health Center Residents, as well as to independent living Residents in either Apartments or Cottages.
  • Visitations are allowed between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm each day.
  • Visitations are limited to the Resident’s home—whether an Apartment, a Cottage, or a Health Center Room.
    • When Visitors arrive, they will be temperature checked and screened at the Welcome Center.Additionally, they must sign in and document their compliance with these parameters:
      • If visiting an Apartment or a Cottage, they will sign in at the Welcome Center.
      • If visiting a Health Center Room, they will sign in at the Nurse’s Station on that Wing. We ask Health Center Visitors to also sign out.
      • After signing in, all visitors will go directly and immediately to the Resident Apartment, Cottage, or Health Center Room.
    • In the Health Center, Compassion Care Visits are evaluated by separate standards from CMS on a case-by-case basis. Compassion Care includes both end of life and new admissions situations.
    • Visitors must wear a Face Mask at all times on campus.
    • While in the hallways, Visitors may not interact or socialize with Residents or Staff—unless needing help with directions or clarification on restrictions. You will need to physically distance (six feet) in the hallways.
    • Visits cannot take place in any common area—ONLY Resident homes.
  • Visitations are limited to two (2) guests only—Family or friends at a time.
  • Visitors (Family or friends) are limited to one 1-hour campus visit per day. Visitors cannot visit in multiple Resident homes on any one day.  They are limited to visiting one Resident home for that one hour per day.
  • Visits should be coordinated with Family and/or friends to ensure no one has to be turned away.
  • When a Visitation is taking place by outside Family or friends, Only the Resident(s) who live(s) in that home may be in that home. No additional Resident(s) can be invited to attend the Visitation.
  • At this time, Overnight Visitations are not permitted. Those will be considered in the next phase of visitations.
  • Covenant Village reserves the right—based upon CDC and CMS Guidance—to cancel, postpone, further limit, or change without prior notice Visitations—and at any time and for any recommended reason.

The goal is to open up the campus to these limited Visitations now and to evaluate the logistics, parameters, and expectations met on a regular basis.  Over the course of the next couple of weeks, it will be determined whether to transition into another phase of Visitation.

We have accomplished a lot in the past year!

Yet, we CANNOT let our guard down.  Even with the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, we have a long way to go!  We STILL must continue to practice all the important COVID-related practices, including:

  • Wearing Masks at all times outside your home and anytime around others (even in your home)
  • Practicing at least six feet of physical distancing at all times
  • Washing your hands and using hand sanitizer in between
  • Continuing to use good cough etiquette.

We recognize the significant and ongoing inconvenience to life, as well as the physical, spiritual, and emotional toll the Pandemic has brought to our Village, our county, our state, our nation, and our world.  Thank you for understanding and honoring the Grand Opening conditions we must put into place, as we all remain committed to preserving the health and well-being of our entire community.

Let’s covenant with each other to Finish Strong this Journey—and to Keep HOPE Alive!
