Active COVID Case Update: Additional Staff Positive COVID-19 Cases

To: Residents of Covenant Village

From: Dale Melton, CEO

Date: November 12, 2020

As a result of Monday’s testing, we have two new Health Center (HC) Staff positive COVID-19 cases. The positive test results were an outcome of the State’s current mandatory COVID testing for both Health Center Residents and Staff. Additionally, we learned that a private sitter for a couple of independent living Residents had also tested positive.

Good news: All involved are doing well, as the Health Center remains in lockdown.

Our Contact Tracing protocols have not uncovered any additional exposures with our two HC Staff. We are concerned about exposure related to the private sitter, so we have quarantined three (3) independent living Residents for 14 days, out of an abundance of precaution and effective protocols.

As with the previous cases, the HC Staff were asymptomatic, which is exactly the reason NC DHHS established ongoing mandatory testing back on August 7, 2020. As we have been saying during these notifications, the process worked like it was intended—for which we are grateful!

As of today and in summary, Covenant Village has four active positive cases—three HC Staff members and the HC Resident from last week. You will recall, we recently had two additional HC Team members test positive, but they were cleared by the Gaston County DHHS office this week and are already back at work after being out for the required quarantine timeframe.

If all of this information is confusing, it changes daily, so I understand! But we want you to have all the information we can share.

As we have shared all along, any positive cases, potential symptoms, or potential exposures are serious for us at Covenant Village—even more so in our Health Center. The health and safety of our Residents, Staff, and larger community continue to be our highest priority. This virus is still actively present and remains dangerous to anyone, but particularly our population who are most vulnerable. We CANNOT let our guard down. We have a long way to go—particularly as the Fall and Winter Seasons settle in!

Good, good news—as of today: Gaston County’s % Positive metric, which determines the testing frequency in the Health Center, has dropped below 10%. At least for now. That means we can move back to weekly mandatory testing, which we plan to do next Monday.

What should you continue to be doing when you are outside your home?

• Wear a facemask at ALL TIMES while you are out (unless you are outside exercising alone). You MUST cover your nose and mouth so the mask can be effective!

• Practice physical distancing of at least six (6) feet at ALL TIMES.

• Wash your hands CONTINUALLY and use hand sanitizer in between.

• Practice good cough etiquette.

• Use common sense on what you should and should not do.

• If you experience any of the COVID-19 related symptoms or are just not feeling well, you should contact the Arbor Wing Nurses Station at —704.917.7857.

We will continue to provide the latest information via community memos; Covenant Conversations on the internal TV channel and Facebook; as well as the Covenant Village website (https://covenantvillagenc.com/) and Facebook page.

For those of us who may have eased off our compliance with the above infection control guidance, use this time to re-evaluate your efforts and actions on behalf of our entire Village! We are only as good as you are and as I am. We will get through this—together! A committed community conquers COVID!!
